4’s continue to impress.

On the first actual day of cricket weather, Poole 4’s played at Poole Park looking to continue their unbeaten start too the season against Swanage 3’s. Skipper Matt Reed lost the toss and Poole were surprisingly inserted having made changes with Conor Waring, Roy Pritchard, Milly Russell and Joe Dennis coming in.

Waring and Dennis were sent to open the batting and Poole didn’t get the greatest of starts with the park pitch being deceptive and keeping very low. Dennis got a low one that turned a little to leave Poole 0-1. Bice came in at 3 and he and Waring steadied the ship with Waring playing some excellent counter attacking shots - in quick fire time Poole were 50-1 off 7. Bice however went having put on 66 with Waring for the second wicket. Sansom came in and put on another 50 run partnership with the fluent Waring before Sansom fell after drinks to another ball that kept very low.

Waring soon brought up his 50 with another excellent boundary before evenutally being bowled for 67 by what looked like the best ball swanage bowled all day. Given the wicket, Conor made it look much easier than it was. Hellawell and Millie Russell added quick runs leaving Poole 145-5 after 28 overs. Poole upped the run rate excellently with Hellawell, Davies, Power and skipper Reed all contributing, the latter having a very entertaining 9th wicket partnership with Pritchard. The willingness and quickness of Pritchard helped add plenty of runs to the total. Poole ending the innings on an impressive 226-8.

After tea Poole came out looking for a strong start opening with Joe Dennis who immediately got the 1st wicket with the 1st ball of the innings. Dennis bowling in partnership with Davies restricted Swanage effectively. Dennis ended up with 3 wickets off his spell, bowling full and straight on a deteriorating wicket. The first change in bowling brought Kirt Holland on and he continued with a superb full straight line forcing poor shot selection from the swanage batsman. He tore through their middle order ending up with 5 wickets for 4 runs from 5 overs.

Roy Pritchard took an excellent catch in the bread basket and a sharp run out leaving swanage well well short.

After some good bowling also from Millie Russell and Waring Swanage were 44-9 at drinks. It didn’t take long for the skipper Reed to take the last wicket and Poole had wrapped up a comprehensive win.

An excellent team performance for the 4th week running with everyone contributing.

We go into next weeks game full of confidence and still unbeaten.
